Primary prevention is a long-term agenda that aims to prevent illness and disease from happening. Primary prevention works by identifying the underlying social norms, structures and practices that influence individual attitudes and behaviours – and acting across the whole population to change these.

The system-change prevention approach used by Bendigo Loddon Primary Care Partnership (BLPCP) aims at supporting healthy lifestyle choices and contributing to the reduction of illness, to ultimately improve physical and mental wellbeing of people living in the Bendigo and Loddon regions.

Our work in prevention is guided by the Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plans 2021 -2025, for both Greater Bendigo and Loddon Shires (seen below).

BLPCP facilitate the City of Greater Bendigo Prevention Network and Loddon Shire Prevention Group which brings together local health and community health services to align their preventative health work. The aim is to improve the community's physical, mental and social wellbeing, and to capitalise on opportunities for collaboration to deliver the best possible outcomes for the community. Actions are outlined in the Integrated Health Promotion plans, now known as Community Health - Health Promotion guidelines.
