The Designing Easy to Read Resources workshops aim to embed consumer engagement and feedback as part of the Health Literacy and Consumer Participation strategy for our PCP partners. The workshops are practical, participative and hands-on. Participants gain a clearer understanding of health literacy, consumer centred resources and how to communicate more simply. The training was one of the recommendations from the Health Literacy Environment Audits conducted with Bendigo Loddon PCP partners over the last 3 years.
Eight workshops were held in 2018. Nine workshops are planned for 2019. Participants have included a wide range of health and community service staff.
Participants describe the 6-hour training as “terrific, well-paced”, “informative and practical”, “opening my eyes to the over use of words”, “very informative with lots of practice to assist with learning”. Evaluation has been excellent, with all recommending the training to others. The workshops have created great impetus for consumer participation and terrific links between workers. There was a high level of commitment to the training process.
